The Henhouse

            The view of my henhouse

                   "The Henhouse"
               Plein Air Oil 8" x 10"

The temperature was in the 60's today. It was windy and cloudy, looking like it could rain. It was so pleasant I couldn't resist painting.

I decided to let my girls run around while I paint the inside of their coop. I was hoping one would roost for me, but I couldn't manage to get a poser.

Hues of November

Plein air painting at Macgregor Park

                "Hues Of November"
               Plein Air Oil 8" x 10"

It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and the temperature was reaching as high as 50 degrees. I invited the members of the IPAPA group to come and paint with me. One member did show up, his name was John.

John painted a barn that was in view across the highway. I picked the trail with all the colors late autumn was showing. The wind was picking up as we were getting started. It blew my panel over and it blew John's easel over also. I helped John to secure his easel better by tieing a string on one of the legs to a pole next to the easel.

I was happy with what I painted, but John was not finished with his. He said the sun was in his eyes, and the wind was picking up strength. It was a good spot to stop for him. I can't wait to see how it turns out later.

Glimpses Of Queen Anne

        "Glimpses Of Queen Anne"
                     Oil 10" x 8"

I painted this at my friends studio in Noblesville Indiana.

The painting is from my trip to Burkesville Kentucky seeing family. This painting is from a photo I took from a place called "Rock House Bottom". A place where my niece took us to show us a natural arch way that was carved out millions of years ago. This historical site is such a beautiful, and spiritual place.

County Courthouse

               "County Courthouse"
                   Oil 10" x 8"

This was done at Forest Park in Noblesville. The distant view of the courthouse inspired me to paint the scene.

I was standing in the parking lot above the golf course looking down. The sun was shining creating wonderful shadows in the snow.

Country Mart

                  "Country Mart"
                 Oil 16" x 20"

I was in Brookville Indiana in October 2014 for an IPAPA paint out. My husband and I were driving around taking photos when we notice the Country Mart tucked away from the main road.

I liked the clouds, how they were coming in, and the light glowing on the building and tanks. My love for grain tanks goes clear back to my child hood.

Macgregor Park

                 Easel set up

                    "Macgregor Park"
                   Plein Air Oil 8" x 10"

This is one of Hamilton County's new park. I haven't been there for years. They made it easier to enter. It's located on State Road 38 and U.S. 31.

I liked the way the path takes you back into the woods, and all the colors of autumn in the foreground. The mystery of the woods is enchanting with the grays and browns.

I enjoyed painting this piece, I plan on going back to do more paintings.

Mid Morning

                    "Mid Morning"
           Plein Air Oil 12" x 12"

I painted this plein air for the IPAPA members show. My painting won an Honorable Mention. I'm so grateful an honored to receive such an award.

Gloomy Days Of Autumn

         "Gloomy Days Of Autumn"
                        Oil 6" x 8"

I wanted to practice on the colors of the trees. It was raining and I panted this from inside of my car. I also wanted to capture the distance of the scene. This was a fun study for me. It was painted at Forest Park in Noblesville Indiana.

Rainy Stroll In The Park

          "Rainy Stroll In The Park"
                  Oil 8" x 8"

I would have called this a plein air painting, but it was done from the back of my SUV. It was raining and the wind was blowing. I thought it would be best if I stayed out of the elements.

I spend a lot of time at the park. The view was calling me to paint it while visiting Forest Park in Noblesville Indiana.

Coffee Or Tea

                 "Coffee Or Tea"
                    Plein Air
                      Oil 14" x 11"

My friend Lesley Haflich and I were painting downtown Noblesville. This is the Noble Coffee and Tea Company located on Logan Street. I was almost done with this painting when I had to leave for work.

I returned back to the site to finish the painting after I was done with work. While I was painting channel 13 WTHR was on the same corner interviewing people. They asked if they could film me painting. I told them they could. I thought "how cool is this"! When they were done filming me the anchor man asked me if I vote? I told him yes. He then asked if they could interview me about "If I'm elected I will not serve". He wanted my thoughts on this. I told him my opinion on the matter. During the whole interview he talked about me being Noblesville local artist and they showed me painting on the 6pm news.

This was a great day. I think of myself being a little lucky that day. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. I think now I should have bought a lottery ticket, maybe I could of won the big one!

Field Of Gold

                  "Field Of Gold"
                  Oil Plein Air
                        8" x 10"

                    "Field Of Gold"
On site photo of Plein Air Painting

This painting was done off of Howe road in Noblesville Indiana. I have loved this view for many years of the soybeans  golden color.

I made a few changes to the painting by moving the trees to make it more interesting. I didn't want the new houses in the painting. I wanted it to be viewed as if the subdivision hadn't been built yet.

                      Oil 8" x 10"

The Wicker Chair

             "The Wicker Chair"
                    Oil Plein Air
                        8" x 8"

I picked this subject, because of the look of the old siding on the house. Then I saw the wicker chair. The sunlight was shinning through the tree creating wonderful shadows and light.

Quiet Morning On The River

    "Quiet Morning On The River"
                  Oil Plein Air
                         8" x 10"

I painted this by the steps next to the river at Potter's Bridge. It was quiet along the river that morning. The water was calm, and in the background was the sounds of birds singing.

When I was have way through, there were three men and a three year old little boy getting ready to go kayaking. It was amazing to me that the dad of the little boy gave his son a kayak of his own to paddle down stream. Of course the dad had his son's kayak tied to his, so nothing would go wrong. I thought that's a lot of trust, and a great way to teach your child how to be independent later.

I also met a photographer who lived and had a studio in the same town as me. It sure is a small world. She asked if she could take my a photo of me painting the river, for a contest she was entering. I hope she wins!

There always seems to be something interesting going on around me when I am plein air painting. Life never seems to be boring.

Hay Bales

                    "Hay Bales"
             Oil Plein Air 6" x 6"

This is on Cumberland road in Noblesville Indiana. I liked the shadows on the ground and the hay bales. Simple painting, I enjoyed this one.

The Old Train

                  "The Old Train"
                      Oil Plein Air

I wanted to paint something old, so I drove to Forest Park in Noblesville Indiana. It had been sprinkling, so I used the hatch back of my car to shelter me from the rain. I had to use my umbrella for my easel to protect the canvas from getting wet. Water and oil just doesn't mix!

The painting I did of these old box cars went really well for me. It just seemed like everything fell into place. I think I would like to an old train engine if I could find one. I love trains, and old trains are my favorite ones.

Green Apple

                  "Green Apple"
                      Oil 8" x 10"

I just had to paint something when I painted the apple. It had been raining off and on all day. I drove to Barnes and Nobles parking lot, so I wouldn't be too far from work.

I didn't have too much time to spend on this painting. I enjoyed painting this, working on my strokes. This was a good practice for me.

The Stephenson House

         "The Stephenson House"
                   Oil Plein Air
                          8" x 10"

I have a artist friend Lesley Haflich who has a studio at the Stephenson House. There are four artist in all at the house. It is run by The Nickel Plate Arts.

Lesley was in her studio painting and I wanted to paint something outside, so I decided to paint the Stephenson House. While I was painting I had a gentleman to stop by that liked what I was doing. He thought it was cool!

After I was done with this painting Lesley and I went to the Uptown Cafe for lunch. Then afterwards it was back to work for me.

Green Awning

                "Green Awning"
                     Oil Plein Air
                         8" x 10"

This was painted at Carmel Center City in Carmel Indiana. The Hamilton County  Artists' Association plein air group held a informal paint out at this location.

The scene was buildings of little shoppes and restaurants. The green awning is what attracted me to this scene. The light hitting it just made the color pop.

Country Road

                  "Country Road"
             Oil Plein Air 8" x 10"

I started back to work, and my shifts at work are split shifts. I decided to paint on my down time.

I painted this painting on the back side of Potters Bridge. While I was there an old friend stopped by to say hello. One of the things I love about plein air painting is the people you meet. Some people are kind, and some are strange. It makes the whole process very entertaining.

Morning Light On Sugar Creek

        "Morning Light On Sugar Creek"

This painting is from an IPAPA (Indiana Plein Air Painters Association) paint out. The paint out was in Waveland Indiana at T.C. Steele Boyhood Home.

We were allowed to paint in the surrounding area of Montgomery or Park County. I choose to paint in Turkey Run State Park, which is in Park Count.  This painting was just down from the suspension bridge on the banks of Sugar Creek.
